We’re so excited to celebrate with you in beautiful Barcelona! Since this is a destination wedding during peak summer travel season, we encourage you to begin thinking about your arrangements early.
What is EES?
EES stands for Entry/Exit System. It is the EU’s new border system for non-EU travelers entering and leaving the Schengen Area. It applies to guests traveling on U.S. and UK passports.
You do not need to apply for EES in advance, and there is no EES fee. However, you may be asked to register your passport details, fingerprints, and photo at passport control.
Will EES only affect me in Barcelona?
Not necessarily. EES checks usually happen when you first enter the Schengen Area and when you finally leave the Schengen Area.
For example, if you fly New York → Madrid → Barcelona, your entry check may happen in Madrid. If you fly Barcelona → Amsterdam → New York, your exit check may happen in Amsterdam.
Could EES make it take longer to leave the airport when I arrive?
Yes, it may. Because EES may add time at passport control, please keep this in mind when planning airport pickups, hotel check-in, dinner reservations, trains, or connecting travel after landing.
How early should I arrive at the airport when flying home?
For flights leaving the Schengen Area to return to the U.S., UK, or another non-Schengen destination, we recommend arriving at the airport at least *3 hours before departure*.
If you are checking bags, traveling during peak summer/weekend times, or flying from a busy airport, *3.5 to 4 hours* is the safer buffer.
How do I get to the wedding venue?
We’ll be providing round-trip transportation from central Barcelona to the venue on the wedding day. The ride will take approximately 45 minutes each way and the pickup time will be around 4pm. The pickup spot for the bus will be at Plaça de Catalunya.
If you want to take this group transfer, you'll want to stay in a hotel near Plaça de Catalunya. If you do not plan to stay until the end of the event, you are also welcome to grab an uber/taxi back to your accomodations from the venue at any time.
Are children attending the wedding?
Yes! We’ll have a few children at the wedding — including our nieces, nephews, and the kids of a few close friends, ranging in age from about 7 to 14. Just keep in mind that the celebration will go until midnight, so you may want to plan an early ride back if your little one gets sleepy.
Are there other events I should plan for?
Yes! We’ll be hosting a optional sunset cruise on Friday July 10th — we’d love for you to join if you’ll be in town early. The offical wedding events will be Friday July 10th through Sunday July 12th.
How do I get around in Barcelona?
Barcelona is very walkable, and the metro system is clean, efficient, and easy to navigate. Taxis are widely available, and ride apps like Free Now and Cabify work similarly to Uber. You’ll also see lots of scooters and rental bikes if you're up for a fun ride!
What are the wedding dress code?
Formal attire.
Gentlemen should wear suits with ties, and ladies may wear floor-length gowns, midi dresses, or elegant short dresses. Linen suits are welcome for comfort in the Spanish summer, though standard suits are perfectly fine.
The ceremony will be outdoors on a pebble-like surface, so stilettos are not recommended—block heels, wedges, or dressy flats are best. Bring a wrap or light layer for the evening as temperatures may cool once the sun sets.
What is the welcome lunch dress code?
Dressy casual. Think polished yet relaxed summer attire. Nice sundresses or midi dresses are perfect, and suits or chinos with a button-down shirt work well (ties are optional). Please no jeans, shorts, or flip-flops.
The lunch will take place at a restaurant overlooking the beach—not directly on it—so regular dress shoes and heels are fine. If you choose to stroll along the beach afterward, you can simply remove your shoes.
